Question: Answered & Verified by Expert
A and B are two points on a uniform metal ring whose centre is C. The angle ACB=θ . A and B are maintained at two different constant temperatures. When θ=180o , the rate of total heat flow from A to B is 1.2 W. When θ=90o, this rate will be

The correct answer is: 1.6 W

Let total resistance of the ring be R

for θ=180o , we can consider the ring as a parallel combination of two sections of resistance R2 each.

  Req=R4

Rate of heat flow

P1=1.2=ΔTR4

T=0.3R

for, θ=90o we can consider the ring as a parallel combination of two sections of resistance, R4 & 3R4

  Req=R4.3R4R4+3R4=3R16

  P2=ΔT3R16=163R0.3R=1.6 watt
