Salicylic acid will give phenol with CaO and NaOH. When carboxylic acids are heated with sodalime, they undergo decarboxylation.
When phenol is distilled with Zn-dust, it gives benzene.
The reaction on salicylic acid with bromine water is an example of oxidation and electrophilic substitution reaction. Salycylic acid in this reaction converts to 2,4,6-tribromo phenol.
