The correct answer is: x12+x222
Elongation in spring is given by x= m k ( g eff )

When the cage is moving up by acceleration a

x1=mk(g+a)

When the cage is moving down with acceleration a

x2=mkg-a

When the cage is moving with acceleration a horizontally

x3=mkg2+a2

m=mass of pendulum k=spring constant

using 12+22

x12+x22=m2k2.2(g2+a2)=2x32

 x3=x12+x222
