When the velocity of satellite (body) is more than orbital velocity but less than escape velocity, then total energy of satellite is negative and the path is elliptical. When the orbital velocity of satellite is equal to the escape velocity, then path of satellite will be parabolic. Again, when the orbital velocity of satellite is greater than escape velocity, the path of satellite will be hyperbolic.
