Question: Answered & Verified by Expert
A car travels in a straight line along a road. Its distance 'x' from a stop sign is given as a function of 't' by the equation x(t)=αt+βt3, where α=2.0 m s-1, β=0.01 m s-3. Calculate the average velocity of the car in the time interval t=2.00 sec sec to 4.00 sec.

The correct answer is: 2.28 m s-1

The given equation of displacement in the above question,
x(t)=αt+βt3,
then the average velocity will be calculated by the idea of change in displacement per unit change in time,
v=dxdt=x4-x24-2=αt+βt3-αt+βt34-2v=α4+β43-α2+β234-2v=24+0.0143-22+0.01234-2=2.28 m s-1

Then we have found that the average velocity fo the car is, 2.28 m s-1
