Positively charged sol of hydrated ferric oxide is formed when $\mathrm{FeCl}_3$ is added in excess of hot water. On adding excess of $\mathrm{NaCl}$ to this sol, negatively charged $\mathrm{Cl}^{-}$ions coagulated the positively charged sol of hydrated ferric oxide.
