Atoms of \(\mathrm{N}\) form ccp, therefore, if the lattice points are \(\mathrm{n}\), then
Number of atoms of \(\mathrm{N}=n\)
Number of octahedral voids \(=n\)
Number of tetrahedral voids \(=2 n\)
The number of atoms \(M=\frac{1}{3} \times\) tetrahedral voids
\(=\frac{1}{3} \times 2 n=\frac{2 n}{3}\)
Ratio of number of \(\mathrm{M}\) to that of \(\mathrm{N}=\)
\(=\frac{2}{3} n: n\)
\(\begin{aligned}
&=2 n: 3 n \\
&=2: 3
\end{aligned}\)
Thus the formula of compound is \(\mathrm{M}_2 \mathrm{~N}_3\)
Number of atoms of \(\mathrm{N}=n\)
Number of octahedral voids \(=n\)
Number of tetrahedral voids \(=2 n\)
The number of atoms \(M=\frac{1}{3} \times\) tetrahedral voids
\(=\frac{1}{3} \times 2 n=\frac{2 n}{3}\)
Ratio of number of \(\mathrm{M}\) to that of \(\mathrm{N}=\)
\(=\frac{2}{3} n: n\)
\(\begin{aligned}
&=2 n: 3 n \\
&=2: 3
\end{aligned}\)
Thus the formula of compound is \(\mathrm{M}_2 \mathrm{~N}_3\)
