Question: Answered & Verified by Expert
A convex lens is put 10 cm from a light source and it makes a sharp image on a screen, kept 10 cm from the lens. Now a glass block (refractive index 1.5) of 1.5 cm thickness is placed in between the light source and the lens. To get the sharp image again, the screen is shifted by a distance d. Then d is:

The correct answer is: 0.55 cm away from the lens
From given data

1v-1u=1f

110-1(-10)=1f

f=5cm

When glass plate is placed, shift in object for lens

s=t1-1μ=1.51-23

=0.5 cm

Shift will be in the direction of incoming rays

u=10-0.5=9.5 cm

1v-1u=1f

1v=15+1(-9.5)

v=47.54.5 cm

Shift =47.54.5-10=2.54.5=59cm=0.55 cm away from lens.
