The scutellum is the single cotyledon in monocots. Monocots have two integuments in their ovule (bitegmic). The nucellus in monocots is made up of many layers and is massive. This is called the crassinucellate type of ovule. Thin, single layer nucellus is seen in the tenuinucellate ovule. It is seen in members of the Gamopetalae group.
