The correct answer is: they will move in mutually perpendicular directions

as collision is elastic

12mu2=12mv12+12v22

u2=v12+v22 .........(1)

Momentum is conserved

mu=mv1+mv2

u=v1+v2

u2=v12+v22+2v1.v2cosθ .......(2)

Solving (1) and (2)

2v1.v2cosθ=0

cosθ=0

θ=90o

i.e. v1 & v2 are mutually perpendicular.
