The correct answer is: 16 m

x=40+12tt3

Velocity, v = d x d t = 1 2 - 3 t 2

When particle come to rest, d x d t = v = 0

∴  123t2=0  3t2=12  t=2 s.

Distance travelled by the particle before coming to rest,

xi=40         t=0

xf=40+24-8        for  t=2 s

xf-xi=16 m
