There are three types of natural selection. The type of selection in which the median character becomes more in number is called stabilizing selection. The type of selection in which the number of individuals with a character at the extreme end of the spectrum is increased is called directional selection. The type of selection in which two characters at extreme ends of the spectrum increase in number, whereas the median character decreases in number is called disruptive selection.
