Biconvex lens is cut perpendicularly to the principle axis, it will become a plano-convex lens.

Focal length of biconvex lens

1f=n-11R-1R

1f=n-12R        (R1=R,R2=-R)

f=R2n-1    .(i)

For plano-convex lens

1f=n-11R-1

f1=Rn-1     .(ii)

Comparing Eqs. (i) and (ii), we see that focal length becomes double.

Power of lens P 1focal length

Hence, power will become half.

New power = 42=2 D
