The correct answer is: a2=2a1
Let a1and a2be the retardations offered to be bullet by wood and iron respectively.

For ABC,

v12-u2=2a14, and 02-v12=2a2(1)

Adding, we get

-u2=2(4a1+a2) ...(i)

For ABC,

v22-u2=2a22

and 02-v22=2a12

Adding, we get

-u2=2(2a1+2a2) ....(ii)

Equating Eqs. (i) and (ii) and solving, we get

4a1+a2=2a1+2a2

 a2=2a1
