The term taxon has been introduced in 1948 which indicates a taxonomic group of any rank. It was first used in 1926 by ‘Adolf Meyer-Abich for animal groups, as a back-formation from the word taxonomy. Herman Johannes Lam in 1948 used it for plants and it was adopted at VII International Botanical Congress, held in 1950.
