There are three types of natural selection: Stabilizing or balancing, directional and disruptive. In the stabilizing type the two extremes of a population are not able to survive and only the mean character value survives. In directional change, more individuals acquire value other than the mean character value. In disruption type more individuals acquire peripheral character value at both ends of the distribution curve.
