From figure the increase in length l=PR+RQ- PQ

= 2PR – PQ

=2l2+x21/2-2l=2l1+x2l21/2-2l

=2l1+12x2l2-2l ( By Binomial theorem)

=x2/l

     Strain= l/2l=x2/2l2
