The correct answer is: diatomic

According to first law of thermodynamics

ΔQ=ΔU+ΔW

For an adiabatic process, ΔQ=0

  0=ΔU+ΔW

or  ΔU=-ΔW

or  nCVΔT=-ΔW

or  CV=-ΔWnΔT=--146×1031×103×7

Cv=20.8 J mol-1 K-1

For diatomic gas,

CV=52R=52×8.3 = 20.8 J mol-1 K-1

Hence the gas is diatomic.
