There were many theories to explain the origin of life. The theories are theories of special creation. theories of biogenesis, Abiogenesis, chemical evolution. panspermia, catastrophism etc. Abiogenesis is also known as theory of spontaneous generation i.e. origin of living organisms from nonliving organisms. This theory was discarded by Redi and pasteur later on.
