Plants require solar energy to make food through the process of photosynthesis. Out of the total solar radiation, only about 50 percent is photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Plants only capture about 2-5% of PAR for synthesis but only 1-5 percent of total sunlight is actually utilised by plants to make food through photosynthesis.
