Active immunity is formed after exposure to an antigen. It can occur when any microbe or antigen enters a person's body who has yet not come in contact with the same earlier. Thus the body did not have any antibodies earlier. This immunity helps to create antibodies for this first time exposure too but this is a very slow process. Thus active immunity is resistance developed through the formation of antibodies.
