In perfectly inelastic collision between two particles, linear momentum is conserved. Let θ  be the angle between the velocities of the two particles before collision. Then

p 2 = p 1 2 + p 2 2 + 2 p 1 p 2 cos θ

or  2 m v 2 2 = mv 2 + mv 2 + 2 mv mv cos θ

or  1 = 1 + 1 + 2 cos θ

or  cos θ = - 1 2

or  θ = 1 2 0
