Conservation of biodiversity can be done in two ways - In situ conservation and Ex-situ conservation. In situ conservation means conservation of threatened animals and plants within their natural habitat whereas when conservation is carried out outside their natural habitat in a special setting it is known as Ex-situ conservation. Botanical gardens, home gardens, Zoological parks, herb gardens and Seed banks are examples of Ex-situ conservation as the species are protected outside their natural habitat in special environment. Biosphere reserves, National parks, Sacred Groves and Wildlife Sanctuaries are examples of In situ conservation where the species are protected in their own natural habitat.
