Amino acids have acidic $\mathrm{COOH}$ group as well as $\mathrm{NH}_2$ group hence, $\mathrm{COOH}$ looses its $\mathrm{H}$ to $\mathrm{NH}_2$, hence they exist as Zwitter ion.
