Acidic character of organic compound increases with increase in strength of electron withdrawing group and decreases with electron releasing group. In $o$-cresol, methyl group show $+I$-effect. It increase the density of electron on oxygen atom after the release of $\mathrm{H}^{+}$ion. Hence, it decrease the acidic strength.
