Johann Mendel considered the "Father of Genetics", gave the observation and theories of inheritance of characteristics. He made the bases of his conclusions on experiments conducted on Pisum sativum, pea plant. He had considered seven characteristics in the plant: seed shape, seed color, pod shape, pod color, stem height, flower color, flower position.

The number of flower, pod, and seed traits was two each and one for the stem of the plant.
