a primary alcohol
Because the difference in mass between $-\mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{OH}$ group and - $\mathrm{COOH}$ group is 14 , thus the compound which undergoes oxidation is a primary alcohol. ( $-\mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{OH}$ is the functional group of primary alcohols.)
