Options:
  • A  40 cm  from the convergent lens, twice the size of the object
  • B 20 cm from the convergent mirror, twice the size of the object
  • C  40 cm  from the convergent lens, same size of the object
  • D 20 cm  from the convergent mirror, same size of the object

The correct answer is:  40 cm  from the convergent lens, same size of the object

First refraction, u=-40 cm;f=+20cm
From lens formula, 1v-1u=1f
1v-1-40=1201v=120-140
v=+40cm
m1=-1
First reflection, u=-20cm;f=-10cm
From mirror formula, 1v+1u=1f
1v-120=1-10
1v=1-10+120v=-20cm
m2=-1
Second refraction, u=-40cm,  f=+20cm
From lens formula, 1v-1-40=120v=+40 cm
m3=-1
mtotal=m1×m2×m3=-1
Finally, image will be at distance 40 cm  from lens and is of same size as object.
