Azolla pinnata is a free-floating aquatic fern that grows in freshwater. A symbiotic partner Blue-green algae i.e. Anabaena azolla is found in the specific cavity that is found on the dorsal lobe. They are responsible for fixing the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil in the form of ammonia so they act as an excellent biofertilizer.
