The correct answer is:
If assertion is true but reason is false.
The orbital velocity, if a satellite close to earth is $v_o=\sqrt{g R_e}$, while the escape velocity for a body thrown from the earth's surface is $v_e=\sqrt{2 g R_e}$
Thus $\frac{v_o}{v_e}=\sqrt{\frac{g R_e}{2 g R_e}}=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$ or $v_e=\sqrt{2} v_o$
Thus $\frac{v_o}{v_e}=\sqrt{\frac{g R_e}{2 g R_e}}=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$ or $v_e=\sqrt{2} v_o$
