The correct answer is: When HIV damages large number of helper T-Lymphocytes.

HIV selectively destroys helper T-lymphocytes. It, therefore, causes symptoms of immunodeficiency due to a critically low number of helper T-lymphocytes. The TH cells are attacked by HIV and stop the triggering of B-lymphocytes by the T-cells, and thereby the immunodeficiency will be observed in the absence of antibodies.
