Bt strains have been used to design bio-insecticidal plants, through genetic engineering. Bacillus thuringiensis is commonly used as a biopesticide and synthesizes the proteins known as endotoxins or cry proteins. These proteins have insecticidal action. The gene for these proteins is introduced in many transgenic products that provide resistance to pests.
