Writing the formation reaction

4C s +4H g +O g C 4 H 4 O g

Δ H f = - 6 2 · 0 = Σ reac BE - Σ product BE

Σ product  BE = Σ reac BE + 6 2 · 0

= 4 × 7 1 7 + 4 × 2 1 8 + 2 4 9 + 6 2

= 2 8 6 8 + 8 7 2 + 2 4 9 + 6 2 = 4 0 5 1  KJ  mol - 1

Σ product  BE  is heat of atomization of product into isolated gaseous atoms. 

Hence answer is 40.51
