The correct answer is: X=CoH2O62+, Y=CoCl42-, Z=Tetrahedral

Cobalt chloride when dissolved in water forms pink coloured isCoH2O6Cl2 . This is due to the electronic transition of an electron from t2g to eg energy level of CoH2O62+ complex. When excess of HCl is added to the solution CoH2O62+ is transformed into deep blue colour complex [CoCl4]2.

t= 49 o

t < o

Tetrahedral complexes have smaller crystal field splitting than octahedral complexes.

CoH2O62+ Conc. HCl [CoCl4]2-

Hence, X=CoH2O62+, Y=CoCl42-, Z=Tetrahedral
