Cleistogamy is the phenomenon in which the flower never opens up and always remains closed. Anthesis or floral bud is absent. Such flowers are always or invariably self-pollinated, thus pollinators are not required. Plants like Viola, Oxalis and Commelina shows cleistogamous flower.
