For a certain lens, the magnification of an object when placed at a distance of 0.15 m is twice of the magnification produced, when the distance was 0.2 m. If in both the situations a real image is formed, then what is the focal length (in cm) of the lens?

The correct answer is: 10
Let as shown, 1 and 2 are positions of objects and images in two different situations.

It is given

vu=2vu

Here, u= -15 cm, u= -20 cm

v=2v ×uu=2v ×1520=32v

now,  1f=1v-1u

1f=1v-1u and1f=1v-1u

so,   1v1-1u1=1v2-1u2

22v+115=1v+120

v=20 cm

vu=2vu=2 ×2020=2

v=2u=2×15=30 cm

Therefore,1f=1v-1u1=115+130=330

f=10 cm
