Haploid male gamete fuses with the two polar nuclei present in the central cell in embryo sac to form triploid (3n) primary endosperm nucleus. Cells of roots are diploid (2n) in nature. Primary endosperm cell (3n) = 24, n = 8. Root cell (2n) = 16. Hence, if the endosperm cell has 24 chromosomes, the number of chromosomes in each cell of the root will be 16.
