Goblet cells are something like a wineglass that present in the columnar epithelium of the mammalian intestine and secrete mucin, a mucoprotein that forms mucus when in solution. If Goblet cells become non-functional, this will adversely affect smooth movement of food down the intestine due to absence of mucin.
