If the % of recombination is less than 50%, then the genes are said to be linked. If two genes are present close on the chromosomal linkage map than they show strong linkage as a result frequency of crossing over between the genes decreases. As a result number of parental types is more than the recombinant type. The strength of linkage is inversely proportional to the distance between two genes present on the same chromosome. Linked genes can not show independent assortment.
