From sine rule:

α+1sinA=α-1sinB=αsinC

α+1sin2B=α-1sinB   [From given data]

α+12sinBcosB=α-1sinB

cosB=α+12(α-1)  ...1 

From cosine rule:

cosB=a2+c2-b22ac

=(α+1)2+α2-(α-1)22(α+1)(α)

=α2+4α2α(α+1)

=α+42(α+1)  ...2

From equations (1) & 2,

α+12(α-1)=α+42(α+1)

α2+2α+1=α2+3α-4

α=5
