In figure, what will be the sign of the velocity of the point $P$, which is the projection of the velocity of the refence particle $P . P$ is moving in a circle of radius $R$ in anticlockwise direction.

According to the question, the particle on reference circle moves in anti-clockwise direction. The projection will move from $P^{\prime}$ to $O$ towards left and $P^{\prime}$ is foot of perpendicular of velocity vector of particle $P$ at any time $t$.
When particle moves from $P$ to $P_1$ then its foot shifts from $P$ to $Q$ and the velocity also directed from $P \rightarrow Q$ i.e., from right to left, hence the sign of motion of $P$ is negative.
When particle moves from $P$ to $P_1$ then its foot shifts from $P$ to $Q$ and the velocity also directed from $P \rightarrow Q$ i.e., from right to left, hence the sign of motion of $P$ is negative.
