In the root of angiospermic plant, the tissue group adjacent to endodermis and towards the central part is called as pericycle. Pericycle generally is composed of parenchymatous cell and in the centre of it lies the pith which is mostly inconspicuous. Formation of lateral root and vascular cambium during the secondary growth occurs at this section.

Epidermis forms the outermost layer of the root having cells giving out root hair in some cells. Phloem is a type of complex vascular tissue which helps in transportation of food throughout the plant.
