The correct answer is: are collinear

In ABC,

AB+BC=AC

AC=a+b    ...i

In ADC,

AD+DC=AC

DC=AC-AD

DC=a+b+a-b=2a

M is the midpoint of BC, so MC=b2.

In MDC

MD+DC=MC

MD=b2-2a

=b-4a2

DM=-MD=4a-b2

X is a point on DM such that DX=45DM.

In ADX

AD+DX=AX

AD+45DM=AX

AX=b-a+454a-b2=1610-1a+1-410b

=35a+b

Hence, AX=35AC from i

i.e. the points A, X and C are collinear
