In the circuit given below, a 100 W bulb B1 and two 60 W bulbs B2 and B3, are connected to a 250 V direct current source. If W1, W2 and W3 are the powers of the three bulbs then, which of the following statements is corect?

The correct answer is: W1 < W2 < W3
              P = V 2 R       so,       R = V 2 P

         R 1 = V 2 100     and    R 2 = R 3 = V 2 60

Now,   W 1 = 250 2 R 1 + R 2 2 · R 1

           W 2 = 250 2 R 1 + R 2 2 · R 2 and    W 3 = 250 2 R 3

          W1 : W2 : W3  = 15 : 25 : 64

or       W1 < W2 < W3 .
