Phyllotaxy can be defined as the pattern of arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch. In alternate phyllotaxy a single leaf is originated at each node in alternate manner. Examples - mustard, sunflower and china rose. In opposite phyllotaxy, a pair of leaves is originated at each node and is arranged opposite to each other. Examples - Calotropis and guava plants. In Whorled phyllotaxy more than two leaves are originated at a node and form a whorl. Example - Alstonia.
