Suppose P is the point where 5th order maxima was lying at t=0, then after how much time third-order maxima will lie at this point P on that screen?

At t=0, Δx=5λ=ydD .....(i)

After t times Δx1=3λ=ydD+vt ......(ii)

Dividing (i) and (ii) we get

53=D+vtD

5D=3D+3vt

2D=3vt    t=2D3v
