Plant cells without cell wall are called protoplast. Protoplasts of two different plant can be fused to obtain a hybrid protoplast and grown into a new plant. Such process is called as somatic hybridization since somatic cells are used for fusion and not gametic cells. The hybrids formed from such technique are called somatic hybrid.
