Options:
  • A Stability of \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{I})\) and \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{II})\) depends on nature of copper salts
  • B \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{II})\) is more stable
  • C \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{I})\) and \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{II})\) are equally stable
  • D \(\mathrm{Cu}\) (II) is less stable

The correct answer is: \(\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{II})\) is more stable
$\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{II})$ is more stable than $\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{I})$ because hydration energy of $\mathrm{Cu}^{+2}$ ion compensate $\mathrm{IE}_2$ of $\mathrm{Cu}$.
