Question: Answered & Verified by Expert
Light incident normally on a plane mirror attached to a galvanometer coil retraces backwards as shown in figure. A current in the coil produces a deflection of 3.5 ${ }^{\circ}$ of the mirror. What is the displacement of the reflected spot of light on a screen placed $1.5 \mathrm{~m}$ away?

If the mirror deflect by $3.5^{\circ}$ the reflected light defl $7^{\circ}$ deflection of the spot $d$ can be calculated

$\tan 7^{\circ}=\frac{d}{1.5}$
$d=1.5 \tan 7^{\circ}=1.5[0.1228] \mathrm{m}$
or $d=0.1842 \mathrm{~m}=1842 \mathrm{~cm}$
