The correct answer is: (a)-(ii); (b)-(iv); (c)-(i); (d)-(iii)
(a) - (ii). In the process of nitrogen fixation, first ammonia is converted into nitrite. This is accomplished by the bacteria Nitrosomonas and Nitrococcus.
(b) - (iy). One of the most important symbiotic bacterium, Rhizobium, remains associated with the roots of leguminous plants. They help in the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia.
(c) - (i). Denitrification is carried out by the genera Pseudomonas and Thiobacillus. Nitrate present in the soil is also reduced to nitrogen by the process of denitrification.
(d) - (iii). The nitrification process also involves the conversion of nitrite to nitrate. The nitrite is further oxidised to nitrate with the help of the bacterium Nitcobacter.
